About Suraya
Named for the Beirut grandmother of founders Nathalie Richan and Roland Kassis, and opened with the team behind Kalaya, the place spreads across a daytime café and market, a main dining room with patterned tile floors and plant-lined shelves, a long pale-green bar under hanging lanterns, a chef's counter and a garden that is the most requested seat in good weather. The menu is Lebanese: muhammara, baba ghanoush, labneh, fatteh and taboulé, then kebabs, samke harra and grilled branzino, with kanafeh to close, and the cocktails work in regional ingredients. Friday nights bring a set chef's tasting, and diners are warned to arrive hungry. Dinner runs nightly from 5pm, to 11pm on Friday and Saturday, with lunch Wednesday to Friday and brunch at the weekend. With more than 4,000 Google reviews at 4.7, it is one of Fishtown's busiest rooms; the one recurring caution is price.
