About Dolphin Tavern
Neon billiards signs still hang outside the old corner tavern at Broad and Tasker, and one longtime patron recalls its days as a Navy Yard hangout and go-go bar. Today it runs as a cross between a dive and a nightclub: a small bar up front, then a dance floor lit by a signature wall of glowing panels, a mirror ball and a recent lighting upgrade, backed by a sound system that punches above the room's size. Friday and Saturday, 9 PM to 2 AM, bring themed parties such as 80s new wave, post-punk and Britpop, 90s grunge or hip-hop, drawing a young, queer-friendly crowd. Cover runs to roughly $13 a head. Google averages 4.0 across nearly 200 reviews; people love the floor and the team behind it, but several recent visitors say the music drifted off the advertised theme and that drinks cost more than a dive should.
