The brick building on Piedmont Avenue that was TEN Atlanta now carries a big red X by the door and runs as X Midtown, one of the neighbourhood's queer dance clubs. Inside are two bars with backlit, branch-patterned fronts and video screens, and outside a courtyard patio planted with palms and greenery takes the overflow on warm nights. Drag shows are a highlight, the dance floor runs on pop and house remixes, and the kitchen serves Southern-leaning bar food such as fried chicken tenders and grilled cheese. Hours are irregular: Thursday to Saturday from 8pm to 3am, Tuesday from 10pm, and Sunday from 4pm to midnight, with Monday and Wednesday dark. A cover of around $5 applies. Service is the sore point, with a run of recent reviews describing indifferent bartenders and a regular who felt pushed out after two years, while others praise individual staff by name.
