About The Heretic
A low building on Cheshire Bridge Road hides one of the city's larger queer dance floors: a dark main room with lasers and spiky light sculptures overhead, a separate bar lined with arcade machines and screens, and a back patio painted in rainbow stripes. The calendar changes by night. Monday brings the Stars of the Century drag show, Wednesdays are drag nights, line dancing and goth parties have their own slots, and Friday and Saturday run from 10pm to 3am as straight-ahead dance nights built on house and pop remixes. It closes on Tuesday and Sunday. Reviewers repeatedly describe a mixed crowd of gay, lesbian and straight guests and a comfortable atmosphere, and staff come in for praise. There is no food, and cocktails run about $18, though one guest noted they pour strong. Google rates it 4.3 from more than 440 reviews.
