About Blake's on the Park

On 10th Street across from Piedmont Park, Blake's has been a Midtown gay bar since 1988 and still works as the neighbourhood's living room: brick walls, a star-lit ceiling, fairy lights and a long bar downstairs, with pride flags hanging out front. After a fire damaged the building a couple of years ago, the upstairs has been finished with its own bar, booth and patio. Drag shows are the anchor, with the Thursday 11pm show a favourite, and karaoke and pop-leaning dance music fill other nights. It opens at 5pm on weekdays and 2pm on weekends, running to 3am except Sunday, when it closes at 12:30am. Drinks are reasonably priced and the door staff draw warm praise; one reviewer credits them with sheltering festival-goers during a storm this September. A recent complaint alleges unequal treatment after a fight. Google rates it 4.0 from over 500 reviews, and it describes itself as straight-friendly.
