About Whisler's
Original limestone walls, pressed-tin ceilings, chandeliers and hundreds of candles make the ground-floor bar one of the moodiest rooms on the east side, dark and gothic after sundown and romantic enough for dates. Bartenders work a list of house cocktails, a well-regarded Old Fashioned and a deep back bar that includes hard-to-find bottles such as Chartreuse. Out back, a large gravel patio under shade sails hosts live music, communal tables and a food truck, and on busy weekends it absorbs the overflow. Up an outside staircase, a small mezcal bar opens around 7:30 p.m., pouring mezcal neat with orange slices and worm salt. Hours run 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. on weekdays and from 2 p.m. at weekends. Most reviews praise the atmosphere and craft, while a few cite inattentive service on packed nights and echoing noise away from the main room. Google rates it 4.6 on more than 1,800 reviews.
