Turf underfoot, oversized shell chairs, a skylit bar and a small lit pool make up the top floor of The Otis, an Autograph Collection hotel a couple of blocks west of the University of Texas. From the rail the UT Tower rises to the east and the downtown skyline lines up to the south, which makes sunset the busiest hour. Cocktails with names like the Old Troubadour share the menu with light bites: sliders, sushi rolls, tuna tacos, chips and dip. Doors open at five every evening, at noon on Fridays, and close at eleven, or midnight at the weekend. The playlist runs to singalong pop and chart hits, with live music on some nights. Google reviewers rate it 4.9 across more than 1,100 reviews, with servers and bartenders thanked by name again and again. It is LGBTQ+ friendly, relaxed about dress beyond casual chic, and priced in the middle band.
