About Uchiko
The second Austin room from James Beard Award winner Tyson Cole takes a farmhouse look, with warm timber, a long sushi bar and a cocktail bar glowing under a coffered ceiling. The approach matches the original: nigiri and sashimi served beside inventive hot plates such as hama chili, fried brussels sprouts and wagyu, and desserts that regulars order by name, including the milk-and-cereal plate and a banana cake. An omakase for two is the way to cover the range, and happy hour from 4 p.m. is the cheaper route. It opens daily at 4 p.m. and closes at 10 p.m., or 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, with a private dining room for groups. Birthday tables appear constantly in reviews, as do servers recommending sake. The score is 4.7 across more than 3,500 Google reviews, with the occasional complaint of a slow kitchen, a tough steak or prices above rival sushi rooms.
