About Skull's Rainbow Room
Behind a black awning halfway down Printers Alley, the room is a long, dark space of tufted leather booths, stone walls, a pressed-metal ceiling and a small checkerboard-floored stage with a grand piano. Jazz combos and singers play through dinner, and later in the evening the stage switches to burlesque, with regulars advising early arrival for a good seat and cash for tipping the performers. The kitchen is more serious than the setting suggests: lamb chops, prime rib, a bone-in pork chop and a lobster bisque that several diners call the best they have had. Dinner and drinks run from 5pm to 2am every day, with a Sunday brunch sitting from 10am to 2pm. Prices sit at steakhouse level, though reviewers still describe the food and drinks as good value for the show. Staff draw consistent praise, including a general manager who followed up personally on a booking problem. More than 3,100 Google reviews average 4.6.
