About Barrel Proof
The whitewashed building with a glass garage door hides a long, wood-slatted room whose back bar is a floor-to-ceiling wall of bourbon and whiskey, with single-barrel picks among the bottles. Bartenders pour flights and mix rum and whiskey cocktails, and regulars say the off-menu drinks are worth asking for. The kitchen is a genuine reason to visit: burgers, lemon-pepper wings, loaded fries and a weekly patty melt special come in red-checked baskets. A pool table, card games and sports on the screens keep people for hours, and dogs are welcome. Hours run from 4pm on weekdays and from 11am Friday to Sunday, staying open until 2am on Friday and Saturday. Count on roughly $20 to $30 a head. Reviewers describe a room where solo drinkers end up talking to strangers, and a 4.9 score from nearly 200 Google reviews is among the highest in the city.
