About Three Dots and a Dash
Entry is through a mural-covered alley behind Clark Street and down a flight of stairs into a basement dressed in thatch, bamboo and carved tiki figures. The long bar glows red beneath hundreds of rum bottles, and round tables and booths fill the rest of the room. Drinks arrive in ceramic skull and fish mugs, carved coconuts and treasure-chest punch bowls built for groups, and the Saturn and the house namesake are the drinks reviewers repeat. A pupu platter with a flaming center heads the food list. With more than 9,200 Google reviews at 4.6, it is one of Chicago's busiest cocktail rooms, and it has featured on the World's and North America's 50 Best lists in past years. Seats can be reserved, and a standing area takes walk-ins. It opens at 4 PM daily and 2 PM on Saturday, closing at 1 AM Thursday to Saturday. The reservation-only Bamboo Room sits inside.
