About Uchi Charlotte
Arched windows, a long wooden sushi bar and a glowing lattice screen above the counter frame a busy, fairly loud dining room, with window booths for anyone after a little privacy. The kitchen mixes classic nigiri and sashimi with hot and cool small plates such as wagyu cooked on a hot stone at the table, crispy brussels sprouts and seasonal crudo, and a chef's tasting menu anchors the evening. Staff say fish arrives from Japan every other day, and there are plenty of vegetarian options. Sitting at the bar and handing the chef a budget for the omakase-style somakase is what regulars recommend. Expect to spend around $100 a person. Open daily from 4pm, until 11pm on Friday and Saturday. Google rates it 4.5 from 267 reviews; one repeat guest complained about slow timing on a Monday. Smart casual, with a crowd of couples, friends and occasion diners.
