About The Cellar at Duckworth's
Stairs lead down from North Tryon into a low, dark room of exposed brick, tufted leather banquettes, Edison bulbs and a long bar, lit so dimly that one guest could not read the menu. The kitchen outperforms the speakeasy look: ribeyes are called among the best diners have had, and sea bass, candied jalapeño bacon and shrimp and grits recur in reviews. Bar staff are named again and again as the reason regulars return after work. Criticism centers on price, uneven kitchen timing and the stairs, which make access difficult. Hours run from four in the afternoon until eleven Sunday through Wednesday and until midnight Thursday to Saturday, the busiest stretch. Dress is smart casual and the bill lands at steakhouse-bar levels. With 4.6 stars from about 1,780 Google reviews, it also appears on Yelp and Charlotte Charm lists of the city's best cocktail bars.
