About Novelty House Rooftop
Two floors of a Fifth Street building make up the space: a rooftop whose hanging-flower canopy, rose walls and checkerboard deck draw a steady stream of photo-takers from late afternoon, and a darker indoor lounge with a long bar and fairy-light curtains. It is strictly a cocktail bar, pouring specialty cocktails, wine, beer and champagne, with food only for private hire, and tables are first come, first served. Doors open at 5pm on weekdays and 1pm at weekends, staying open until 2am every night except Sunday. Early evening is relaxed; later, hip-hop and chart sets fill the rooftop and it turns into a party, busiest on Friday and Saturday. A dress code is enforced and security is visible. Reviews are divided, averaging 3.7 from 338: bartenders get praise for keeping pace when slammed, while several guests describe abrupt security and staff at closing.
