About Customshop
Brick-fronted on Elizabeth Avenue, with a small sidewalk lounge outside and a bar-centred room inside, it reads more like a cocktail bar that happens to cook seriously. Plates are family-style and generous for the category, so two or three dishes each covers a table; arroz meloso, hamachi, wagyu tartare, scallops, empanadas, cavatelli and a much-praised flan come up again and again. The wine list is broad and drawn from around the world. Michelin recommends it, and Google gives it 4.5 from 501 reviews. The warnings are practical: tables are packed tight enough to make conversation hard, the menu is short with few options for committed meat eaters, and one birthday table waited an hour for mains. Servers are otherwise praised by name. Open Tuesday to Saturday, 5 to 10pm. Smart casual, with a crowd of couples, friends and small celebrations.
